History

This island was initially colonised by the French with the founding of Nouvelle Comte on the southern bay. Later the English founded St. James on the northern coast. During the 7 Years war this island saw little direct fighting except for an early invasion of British forces that siezed Nouvelle Comte, the island was latter surrendered to the British at the end of the war.

Fines and Punishments

Most petty crimes such as minor theft, vandelism, drunkardness and the like will carry a small fine and time in the pillory (Including Ear nailing). Additional beatings or whippings may be included for some cases.

More severe crimes such as Burglary, Assault, destruction, etc. are likely to be met with whippings, Brandings, the removal of ears or the nose or other such minor mutilations.

Both towns hold a set of branding Irons of different letters. SL for seditious libel and can be burned on either cheek. M for manslaughter, T for thief, R for rogue or vagabond, F for forgery and B for Burglary.

Repeat offences (Usually the third) or particularly heinous crimes carry the death penalty. Crimes that are seen as Immoral, Diabolic or Heretical often carry heavier punishments.

Each of the Towns on the island have there own Magistrate who proscribes penalties and as such penalties may vary from case to case and which town you are tried in. Also note, while it is uncommon there have been cases where people have been tried for the same crime twice, Once in each town.

Ships

Various classes of ship are available. They are listed below with costs and also potential focus'd varients

Pinnace Class (2 Resource) The smallest but must manuverable of the ship classes, Can be crewed by as few as 6 men.
- War Boat (+1 Resource) Designed for greater speed, predominantly used for raids or rapid boarding of other ships.
- mail runner (+1 Resource) Designed as a quick cargo trasport, usually mail, It can carry more than the other Pinnace class ships but moves slower. requires at least 8 crew

Sloop Class (3 Resource) These are a veriety of common quick ships. Can be crewed by 8.
- Sloop of War (+1 resource) built as a small escourt or patrol boat, these ships a light, quick but still able to handle small engagements. crewed by at least 10.
- Royal Sloop (+2 resource) are an improvement on the sloop of war, upgraded to be able to provide that bit more punch in small naval battles. Crewed by at least 12.

Barque Class (3 Resource) The smallest of the dedicated merchant ships, these large cargo, quick but poorly armed ships are crewed by 12.
- Coastal Barque (+1 Resource) Are a lighter and faster varient of Barques, crewed by 10 and less well armed.
- Ocean Barque (+2 resource) Crewwed by 14 the Ocean Barque is designed for longer journeys with a larger cargo space. It is however slower than the other barques.

Fluyt Class (4 Resource) are a large merchant ship. poorly defended and rather slow they are only notable for there large carrying capacity.

Brig Class (5 Resource) A medium war vessel, often seen in support of larger ships or leading a patrol force of Sloops. These ships needs at least 14 men to crew.

Merchantman Class (6 Resource) These large ships are almost entirely cargo space. Crewed by 16 men or more they are slow, vulnerable but capable of carrying up to 100 tones of cargo.

Merchant Galleon Class (8 resource) Slow and hard to manuver many pirates have, foolishly, thought them an easy prize. They are however the most heavily armoured of ships on the sea and also heavily armed to fend off would be raiders. The Spanish don't use them as Treasure ships for nothing. Can be crewed by as few as 12.

War Galleon Class (8 resource) Slow. solid and covered in cannons. The War Galleons are to be feared. Crewed by as few as 13 but able to carry upto 200 men these ships are powerhouses of war.
- Fast Galleon (+2 resource) An increase to the War Galleon speed and manuverability to try to out do it's competitors. This is however at the cost of some of it's fire power. Crewed by at least 12.
- Flag Galleon. (+4 Resource) Crewed by at least 16 men these vast warships are built to be the most powerful thing in the fleet.

Frigate Class (8 resource) These quick warships were built to out do the mighty galleons by out manuvering them. Needing 16 crew at least these ships have almost the same fire power as a galleon but packed into a faster hull. This does however leave very little space for cargo.
- large Frigate (+3 Resource) Following the early successes of the Frigate ships a number of larger frigates were commissioned for galleon hunting during the wars.
- Ship of the Line (+6 Resources) These massive frigates were designed to be the biggest, most intimidating ships on the fleet. There purpose was to act as a mobile strong point on the water. Where-ever they were became the front line. Minimum crew of 18 but can carry as many as 400.
